The Smarthome Evolution

The concept of ‘automation’ was gradually introduced over the years into different projects in different sectors of the economy and every new invention or new upgrade of a product comes with a higher level of automation.  A well-advanced level of automation in the setup of a home is what has led to the evolution of the Smart Home.

A smart home is simply a residence that uses internet-connected devices to enable the remote monitoring and management of appliances and systems. It provides homeowners security, comfort, convenience and energy efficiency by allowing them to control smart devices, often by a smart home app on a smartphone or other internally networked devices. Typically, Home Automation systems will control:

  • Appliances, like washing machines, fridges and garage door openers
  • Home entertainment systems: Television sets and inbuilt home sound systems,
  • Home security systems: Door and window security, Security Gate automation and Surveillance
  • Environmental system controls, like air conditioning, heating, and lighting

Devices such as ZigBee, Z-Wave, Lutron, and Wink are systems that unite all your smart devices are give you one node to access all appliances. Usually they come with some mobile software or application, so you have easy control when you are in the house or when you’re out and about.

While the Smart Home offers convenience and cost savings, and many times are able to give notifications and updates on issues in the home, there are still some challenges. Security risks, bugs and hacking are some of the issues that have cropped up over the years, however, using strong passwords and encryptions can help to mitigate these challenges.

No home, nonetheless, is 100% automated as the technology is still in its advancing stage but Home Automation adds ease and class to luxury and makes your home a worthy Paradise (the Evolution from the traditional Manual home to a Smart home). Smart home technologies are in their developing stages and will continue to advance for decades to come.
